  • Is there something else going on here? I had kind of figured given a (relatively speaking) slightly higher tier interface (I realize $660 USD is basically just off of the floor in terms of price of interfaces but still), I would be able to manage 96k/24 without any problems, but maybe I was wrong.
  • So is trying to record at 96k/24 unrealistic for someone with consumer grade equipment? What do you out there who dont work in pro-studios record in?
  • Im not making a Hollywood feature film here, nor do I think anyone is going to want super hires DSD files of my music or anything, but I would like a nice, high quality audio file.
  • What determines what the "audio performance" gauge in Cubase is measuring? Is it the audio interface? Is it the CPU? Both?.
  • My computer shouldnt cause me any issues, its a Ryzen 1700x 4Ghz on all 8 cores and 32 GB ram. Some of which I know are a little heavy handed like some of the Waves and Fabfilter Pro stuff. I will say, this song does have about 25 tracks in it, most of which are VSTi's and most have a fair bit of effects processing on them. I'm aware I'm asking much more of the interface and or CPU, as well as why, but I have other questions. I realized I hadnt touched my buffer size, but it was already maxed out at 1024, and obviously, decreasing it made that problem worse. I notice that the "audio performance" meter, is now getting much too high for my liking, and indeed, Im getting some crackles and pops and the occasional stutter on playback. So I thought to myself, well lets amp that up to 96k/24. I was making this last song at 44.1k/16 because of my previous interface.

Or I could anyway.īut here is where I get confused. And I am happy to say I can jam a bunch of effects onto a track and still monitor real time with zero problems. I just recently got a new interface, a Focusrite Clarett 4pre, for a lot of reasons, but one was latency. I tested this some years ago on my old system (with onboard FW controller), but USB perfomed better. So I understand what sample rate, bit depth and buffer size are, though Im still not an expert.

Last possible solution would be to connect the UCX via FW, using a PCIe>FW controller card. I just ordered a PCIe USB controller card, with a different USB chipset (Renesas). I really tried everything, EVERY USB Port on the mobo (even the pure USB 2 ones), different Cubase versions, instaling & running Cubase as admin & safe start mode. I was sure it is AMD (or ASMEDIA USB chipset related).Īs I said, no problems at all with my old Intel PC. I have the newest Cubase version but it also happened on older ones. The playback then sounds totally bitcrushed.

And when it stops working I usually also can't play any other Windows audio anymore (like Spotify or Youtube.). It's interesting that sometimes the buffer size change works and sometimes not. I was running the exact same stuff (Cubase & UCX) before with an older Intel 3930K system, If this is the case, I will go have to go back to Intel, which sucks, because the ryzen is great otherwise. In my case I think it is somehow related to the AMD based setup. The problem occured from the start, I also tried with an older Windows buildĪlso, every USB Port available on the mobo behaves the same.

RME Driver version: 1.168, Hardware Revision: 48ĪSUS PRIME X470 PRO (latest AGESA 1.0.0.4 BIOS), Ryzen 3900xĮvery possible driver, windows and firmware is up to date. No reaction to buffer size changes in Cubase, no matter if I change from cubase itself with the settings dialog,Īlso if I change the buffer size after I close Cubase, Cubase won't playback any audio, I have to restart the system.Ĭubase 10.5, Cubase 10, Cubase 9.5 (all latest versions) I have the exact same problem with my FF UCX (USB connnected).
